A Christian woman, Mary Abeni, was kidnapped multiple times by militant groups. Her first abduction occurred in February 2022, when she was held for six months. She was taken again in November of the same year and released after three months.
A third abduction in July 2023 resulted in sexual assault and pregnancy. During her captivity, her captors attempted to force her to deny her faith. Mary was eventually freed, but her husband abandoned her upon her return.
