A collective action framework has been updated to address the risk of droughts. This framework integrates lessons learned and clearly defines triggers, a plan of action, financing, and common learning modalities. The goal is to use forecasts of potential severe drought to trigger humanitarian actions, reducing the impact on affected people.

Three United Nations agencies have identified anticipatory actions to be implemented in two sectors: food security and livelihoods, and Water, Hygiene and Sanitation. These actions are detailed in the updated framework document. Further details on the actions and the framework are available in the document, which outlines a plan to mitigate the humanitarian impact of drought.
