Caritas teams are working to contain the spread of Ebola, which is caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain. This strain has no approved vaccine or treatment. The epidemic has resulted in 4,945 confirmed cases and 2,325 deaths, with a fatality rate of 46%.

The affected areas include six provinces. The epidemic was declared on May 15 and reached over 1,000 confirmed cases in 40 days, making it the fastest-spreading Ebola epidemic on record. Caritas is supporting affected families through its networks and community health structures.
