In our region, humanitarian workers face significant risks. Lebanese Red Cross volunteers have been observed showing affection to one another before leaving their compound, aware that they may not return. They also wear protective gear, including flak jackets and helmets, when responding to emergencies.

This gear provides some protection, but it is limited. Nearby, in Iran, a rescue team recently lost a colleague to a targeted attack. The dangers faced by these workers are a concern.

Further details about the challenges faced by humanitarian workers in our area and beyond are available from ReliefWeb and the IFRC.
