In Moldova, a humanitarian crisis persists due to the prolonged displacement of Ukrainian refugees. The escalation of hostilities in Ukraine began over four years ago, in February 2022. As of late April 2026, nearly 46,000 Ukrainian refugees in Moldova had applied for an extension of temporary protection.

This number only accounts for those seeking an extension and does not represent the total refugee population in the area. Further information on the situation and refugee support is available from the Household Economic Capacity Assessment. Details on the economic vulnerabilities of refugee households and the shift towards longer-term support can be found in previous assessments.
