Refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR total 1,084,858. The largest group consists of Sudanese, making up over three-quarters of the total, followed by Syrians. Most of these individuals reside in Greater Cairo and Alexandria.

UNHCR is increasing its efforts to provide protection and assistance to newly arrived Sudanese refugees. This is in response to the current conflict in Sudan, with Egypt being the top recipient country for those fleeing. Further information on refugee management and protection efforts, including the implementation of Egypt's asylum law, is available from the source.
