A new report estimates that nearly 1 in 5 children aged 12 to 17 have been victims of exploitation or sexual abuse facilitated by technology. This translates to 20 million children across 21 countries. The majority of these incidents occurred on public social media platforms.

However, less than 1% of cases were reported to authorities. The report, published by UNICEF, combines child testimonies with a large dataset of survey information. It highlights the scope of the issue, with 1 in 5 children affected in the surveyed countries.

Further details on the report's findings are available.
