A new report estimates that nearly 1 in 5 children aged 12 to 17 have been victims of exploitation or sexual abuse facilitated by technology. This translates to 20 million children across 21 countries. The majority of these incidents occurred on public social media platforms.

However, less than 1% of cases were reported to authorities. The report, published by UNICEF, combines child testimonies with one of the largest sets of survey data on this topic. It highlights the scale of the issue, with over half of the abuse happening on social media.

Further details on the report's findings are available, providing insight into the scope of this problem and the need for action to protect children from technology-facilitated exploitation.
