A new report by UNICEF estimates that 20 million children aged 12 to 17 have been victims of exploitation or sexual abuse facilitated by technology in 21 countries. This represents nearly one in five children in this age group. The majority of these incidents occurred on public social media platforms.

However, less than 1% of cases were reported to authorities. The report combines child testimonies with one of the largest sets of survey data on this topic. It highlights the scope of the issue, with one in five children affected.

Further details are available in the report, which explores the role of technology in facilitating these abuses.
